Hannah

This is Hannah from Germany, born 13/08/97, daughter of Martin and Beate.
( She now has a little brother, called Yannic, born 21st April 2000. )

When she was born, something seemed queer, so she was put to Childrens’s hospital to be
surveyed. We took her home after two weeks, already having the diagnosis CDC.

As we had gotten the diagnosis soon, we immediately started with physiotherapy because of her
poor muscle tone. Other therapies followed. Luckily, there’s nothing very "special" wrong with her
– except the CDC.

At the moment, she is getting Early Intervention Therapy and Occupational Therapy, each once a
week and sees her physiotherapist once a month. In fall (some time after she’s begun with nursery
school), we’ll start Speech Therapy, too.

Hannah is a very loving and charming girl who knows very well how to twist you round her little
finger!

She loves swimming (we do that since she’s 6 weeks old!), examining things, "cooking" (with her
toy pots), children’s playsongs, playing in the sand, rocking wildly on a swing – and
dressing/undressing herself. Her daddy made a poem on her which might be translated: "I’m so
young and cute and prefer being nude!".

Hannah doesn’t walk yet, but can crawl very fast, climb furniture and stairs.... (She can walk if
pushing a chair or a little chariot, but isn’t interested in stronger efforts to walk alone at the
moment). But she likes talking, like a little parrot. When she had over 60 words, we stopped
counting! Most of it is quite understandable, although she can’t pronounce all consonants yet. Of
course, she can understand even more – if she wants to (she knows quite well if something is not
allowed)!

Although, she is "behind" in many ways, we consider her quite easy-going. If she isn’t sick, she
sleeps from 8.30 p.m. to 7.30 a.m. (sometimes interrupted by nightmares – as we guess -, but this
seems normal to me). She eats nearly everything (even salad), prefering vegetables, noodles and
fruit. Although she doesn’t chew very well, she can manage. We haven’t started toilet training yet,
but sometimes she even tells us, that her nappies are filled. Obstipation used to be a problem
when she was smaller, but isn’t any longer, normally. Sometimes, especially when she’s not well
(but not really ill), she does head-banging on the floor if something doesn’t work the way she
wants it to, but it isn’t a serious behavior problem. The only "real" problem at the moment is her
constant cold ("runny nose", cough) and her recurrent inflammations of the middle ear. Because of
that she’ll have her adenoids taken out in summer, hopefully it will be better afterwards!

Hannah is our big joy, the best that could have happened to us, and we won’t miss her!

You can mail to us – we’d like it (Please write in English, German, French or Spanish):
