She had tetrology of fallot repair Sept. 15 1997. (open heart surgury) She did very well. She just began to sit before Christmas. She is learning many new things in the last few months. Feedback: My name is Joanne Montoya and I have a son who is almost seven months old with CDC. He was diagnosed at birth and spent 2 weeks in NICU. This is a very big step for me to be on the internet since I suffered severe post pardum depression and was shocked about his diagnosis. It took me three weeks after he was released to even read anything on the syndrome, I was terrified on what I may find. Six months later, my son Alexander is doing much more than anyone ever expected. He is the absolute love of our lives and brings us more joy than we thought possible. The geneticists gave us a very, very poor outlook for him, which is why I guess I went into such a depression. However, Alexander laughs, interacts, plays with toys, rolls over front to back and back to front and is starting to sit!! I think this guestbook and the message board are wonderful outlets for information, and the stronger I get the more I will be interacting with you all. Feedback: i am a single never married mother to a 3 yr old child with autism and a deletion of 5p band 15.3. i have a lot of trouble with the boys father telling me to get a life and back off from all i do with steven, and this is very frustrating. steven does not have any language as such and is coming along very slowly. my mom and brother help out with him and we have gotton him in early intervention. it has really helped. i feel angry about his dad taking me to court all the time and the judge not listening about his condition and his fathers apathy towards it. it is alsoo hard sometimes to get doctors to listen to you when you know he is sick. they act like you dont know anything sometimes. i have thought of starting a support group in my area of anderson, indiana but i am not sure how to do it. i think there needs to be alot more research into the causes of autism and genetic illnesses. my dad was exposed to lots of radiation and had lots of problems healthwise before he died and i wonder if this might have something to do with stevens genes being the way they are. i am always on the lookout for any information that is new on his conditions. i can be reached at 765-642-7478. thanks

Feedback: Hi! My name is Jenny Hayes and I have a seven year old daughter with cdc. We are from Indianapolis, Indiana. Her name is Lauren and she is an angel. I feel very lucky to have her. For the past few years she has started some language, mostly single syllable words that are often hard to understand but she has such a willingness to try. She also uses a combination of sign language also. She does have some behavorial problems, but I think this has partly to do with her problems with communication. She is for the most part a very happy and loving child. She has such a beautiful personality. She loves to make everyone laugh especially her 8 year old sister. I think this is a great sight for obtaining information or just browse through. It it comforting to know that we are not alone and there are so many things in common with these children. Feedback: Hi. I am the mom of a 9 yr old boy with CDC. We are haaving trouble with his sleep habits. We have been working the Sleep Disorder Clinic at Stanford but are unable to find a solution. This has been going on since he was 18 mos. We currently have him on prescription Melatonin,compound and time-release which only seems to help get him to sleep. His normal routine is to wake up approx. 3 hrs. after he falls asleep. He is also very restless during his remaining sleep. He isn't on any other medication. He was tested for ADD but found not to have it. If anyone can give us any input on this we would greatly appreciate it. Needless to say mom and dad are tired!!! Hope to hear from someone soon

Feedback: My granddaughter April was diagnosed with cdc the first week of life. She was born two months premature on February 27, 1999. April has not had the physical problems most babies experience when they are born too soon. In fact, April is very strong and seems to be adjusting well at home. My 19 year old daughter who is unmarried, has decided to keep her child and with our help, is continuing to pursue her college degree in teaching. All of our family and friends have been very supportive and I have no doubt that my daughter is the right parent for April. Feedback: Was very pleased to find this site! My nephew Grahm who is 21 and one half years old has CDC. He was diagnosed at birth and was given a poor prognosis as to his future quality of life. He weighed 2 lbs. and some ounces at full term. Grahm now walks with assistance, speaks single words, and understands a great deal. He does have scoliosis. Sadly to say Grahm was diagnosed in December of 1998 with terminal colon/liver cancer. He is eating again but has lost much weight. He is not getting chemo or radiation, but again is more of himself after several surgeries and a colostomy. Is there anyone who knows of any link between CDC and colon cancer? (There may be none, but he is very young for a typical colon cancer patient) Also, could any parents of CDC children in their 20's or older please leave age information. Finally, if any CDC parents would like to write to my sister (she does not own a computer) she would surely enjoy hearing from you as she is a single parent and would enjoy your support and conversation. Even having her family, we cannot provide the insight that you other parents of CDC children can provide, and in return perhaps she can help some of you younger parents with her experiences with Grahm. Feedback: I am so glad that my husband and I are able to find out so much information and are able to chat with other parents. Our daughter, Rayden, was diagnosed three weeks after she was born. She hasn't had any problems except for belly aches. She is already rolling over from her stomach to her back and is holding her head up very well. She is seven weeks old now. She is a Godsend. We are unable to attend the conference this year, but plan to attend next year. We are looking forward to meeting everyone.

Feedback: Hi, I've visited this site before and found it a great springboard to information about CDC. Unfortunately I've changed PCs and haven't yet been able to reconstruct all my bookmarks & address lists! The special child in my extended family is Erin who's about to have her first birthday. Erin is distinterested in feeding. The dietitian who's seen her has been dismissive and not at all helpful. Feedback: Our daughter was born on July 20,1999. Her name is Mary Allison Biggs. Her doctor noticed her having a "cat like cry" as soon as she was born. The doctor was quite sure she did not have the syndrome due to the fact that she had only one symptom, which was the cry. Two weeks later we received a call from the doctor with shocking news. She did in fact have the syndrome. We would like to be added to the mailing list if possible in order to learn all we can. Thanks, MB

Feedback: Our daughter, Rayden, was diagnosed with CDC at three weeks of age. She was first diagnosed at one week of age by my sister who is a nurse. We called our pediatrician and discussed the possibility with him and he referred us to a genetic specialist. We got the results back when Rayden was three weeks old. She is so beautiful and we feel we have been truly blessed. We were devastated initially, but we have been able to accept this and vow to give her a wonderful life. She is doing so good and we are so glad that there are other parents to talk to. That helps so much. We've made some good friends already who have touched our hearts. Feel free to e-mail us.
