Feedback: Hi, my name is Janet, my husband
and I have an eight year old Grandson with CRC. We are having some behavioural
problems with him. He slaps himself on the side off his head, when he knows
that he did something wrong, he tends to dig at his thumbs and fingers,
which end up with sores. He says three phrase words, some signing, fast
walk, ears pretty good by himself. He has been living with us for over
six years, one of the main things, he is very hyperactive, which doesn't
work out too well when he attends school. If anyone out there would like
to email me or even leave me a message on having experienced any of these
behavioural problems.

a pretty big headache!!) We live in Canada and have never had the chance
to meet any other CDC kids. This site is a big help as it reassures us
that we are not alone in this great big world. Would love to hear from
anyone willing to share stories and information.

CDC syndrome, Gabriel. When i feel down, I read information on the CDC
that help me keeping hoping. Gabriel can walk, says some very simple words
and uses a sign language named COGAMON. His agresivity totally dissapeared
when he began using this language, as people may understand him now. But
he wants to say a lot and COGAMON became too poor for him. We would like
information on any other speech and comunication therapy. Any mail is welcome.
This page is of very great help. Thank you!

Feedback: i found this at the library in
Folsom, California where I live. My daughter, Amanda, age 2 and 1/2 years
has cri-du-chat. I am trying to learn as much as possible about the disorder.
I am a member of the 5p- society in the usa and have made alot of connections
with parents. Amanda is doing quite well as she can walk, run and has language.
We did not get a diagnosis until she was two years old. For the first fifteen
months of her life, she developed like a typical baby: sitting, crawling,
smiling, wal king, ect. She did have the cat-cry at birth and throughout
her infancy but her pediatrician dismissed my concern over her cry. Of
course, I had never heard of cri-du-chat and apparently neither had her
pediatrician. We took her to several specialists when she was around two
because I feared she was autistic as she developed some odd behavoirs such
as whirling around repeatedly in circles, fixating on wiggling strings
and her language was not where it should be for a two year old. After many
doctor visits we were told she probably has some type of genetic sydrome
based on some subtle facial abnormalities: a slightly assymetric facies,
broad nasal bridge and epicanthal folds. It was I who started researching
syndromes and when I read about cri-du-chat I immediately thought of the
cry! I spoke to the developmental specialist at UCD Medical Center who
had evaluated her earlier and she said it can't be cri-du-chat. But after
her blood was drawn for the karotype, I asked the laboratory to make certain
chromosome 5 was studied carefully (the doctor was looking for Fragile
X syndrome!) and she does have cri-du-chat. She is missing band 15.3 and
part of 15.2. My understanding from Dr. Joan Overhauser at Thomas Jefferson
is Amanda has one of the smaller deletions. What I am confused about is
the mixed information about the relationship between deletion size and
mental delay. Can anybody answer this question? Also, I would be so appreciative
to hear from any families who have a child who is mildly affected, expecially
with regard to eductional issues and therapies. Amanda has no health problems
and normal gross motor development. Her fine motor is somewhat weak and
her language, while delayed, is definitely coming along. She is saying
alot of words and just beginning to combine 2 word phrases. I hope to find
some parents out there with similar circumstances. I will also say I have
met so many wonderful people throughout this experience and hope to give
back to the 5p- community. Thank ypu. My address is 105 Winchester Ct.

words consistantly, but has said about 50 words. Most things that she has
said we have only heard once or twice. She has even put two words together
a couple of times. We have her on a natural food compund that is supposed
to stimulate speech. We feel and her theraposts feel that it has really
helped. If anyone would like information or would just like to correspond
I would love to hear from you. I enjoy hearing about other children with
CDC and like to know what different parents are doing for their children.

as a baby. She walks, runs (carefully), talks, yells, throws fits, cusses
(but don't we all?), and is stronger than most of my 9 siblings...in many
ways. She rakes, smashes cans, sweeps, works at a center for mentally handicapped
people putting toys in plastic bubbles for stores, occasionally sticks
up her pinki and calls people she's mad at a "beesh" (she can't stick up
her middle finger or pronounce prfanity very well...but boy does she try).
She also has saved my family from a house fire, that would've killed them
all and left me without the family I have today. We're all here because
of her. And we're all reminded of what innocence and goodness really are,
all because of her.

Sometimes I feel like we are the only family in the world that is dealing
with this syndrome. I think it will be very good for me to be able to talk
to others who know what it is like. Daniel is 21 and very active. He loves
people and wants to be involved in whatever is going on around him. He
just finished with our school system and soon we will be looking for another
program for him but we wanted him to have a summer vacation first. Daniel
has two brothers: Shawn is 16 and Adam is 14.

harder to childproof your home for a 6 year old. He can reach so many places.
He also like to stick things in his mouth. But most of the time now it
just to get a reaction. We are trying to toilet train. We could use any

seems to be keeping him more on task at school. We have also been using

wonderful in providing information and personalizing the syndrome. I am

important function. Thank you for providing a site where someone like myself

all the parents so inspiring and I have become quite emotionally affected
as a result of reading about these wonderful children. I have found limited
information on the long term outcome for these children and would appreciate
any additional information someone can offer. Also, I have noticed that
many or most of the children with Cri Du Chat see a Speech Pathologist.

help. My sister and her husband, Jenn and Jack Zurlini of Santa Barbaram,

has cri du chat. Apparently a small percentage of sufferers also have heart
conditions of varying severity as a consequence of the condition. Cassia
has six such idnetified defects, and is facing imminent and life-threatening
open heart surgery at UCLA Medical Center. Jenn and Jack are desperate
to talk with anyone whose cri du chat child has a heart condition, and
who suffers from no additional chromosomal deficinckes beyond Cp- (cri
du chat). The heart medication that had been stabilizing her condition
seems to be losing effectiveness, and they may be forced to make a premature
decision on the surgery, while Cassia remains relatively strong, without
sufficient information to evaluate the wisdom of such an operation. Is
there anyone out there who can provide any helpful information for us?
It is as I say urgent. E-mail me at geoffdownes@hotmail.com. Thank you,

Feedback: Our son Vitek is the 8 years old
CDC child. I am really surprised how many links I´ve got searching
for Cri du Chat links. Vitek has started at a special school this September
and he is making progress. He recognizes characters, counts 1 to 10 (O.K.
- in a good mood only) and it´s a lot of fun with him. We are from
Czech Republic, Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) and we are not in contact with
any CDC community here. Having more time I will sure go through guestbook´s
entries and maybe reply to some of you. Hi, Pavel.

Feedback: I have a son with a variant of
5p- syndrome who is 19 months old. I am looking for information. We have
determined that he has a heart defect (ASD), a moderate hearing loss, and
fine and gross motor delays. I would love to find anything relating to
his specific needs.

Feedback: My daughter Anna-Marie has CDC.
She is now six years old. We found out when she was 2 months old and it
was a very scary ordeal for me. I had Anna when I was 17 and it was hard
enough to become a teenage mother but Anna and I learned together. She
has brought alot of LOVE into my life. She has also brought frustration
and pain. I also can't imagine life without her. She has alot of behavioral
problems and they tend to change thoughout the years. I am interested in
finding out more information on CDC and am also hoping to be able to connect
with some other parents. I will leave my E-mail address as soon as I get
One so you can contact me until then I will wait for a message or try to
contact some of you! THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE!
